Designated Donation | Public Cord Blood Bank
In a partnership agreement with the hematology-oncology units in Schneider Children's Hospital and other medical centers, Bedomaich Chayi is active in preserving designated cord blood donations. Much effort and resources are invested in this process. In the case where a sibling of the to be born is in need of a bone marrow transplant or may need one in the near future, this cord blood unit is saved only for the patient.
Characteristics for preserving cord blood as a designated donation:
• For a sibling of the newborn and only if the tissue typing characteristics (HLA) are indeed suitable for the patient. This will be determined either during the pregnancy or after the donated the cord blood had been processed in our laboratory and apprpropiately analysed.
• Only for illnesses that had been currently established suitable for this transplantations and listed in the designated transplant list
• A referral letter from a hematologist and bone marrow transplant specialist
In every situation of a designated donation it is important to contact Bedomaich Chayi as soon as possible so that we can approve the request and process it properly.
In order to give the collection the best chance at success, early coordination is arranged between the expectant mother, the hospital she plans on giving birth in, the lab and the patient's doctor.
