How to Donate Cord Blood ? | Bedomaich Chayi
1. Download the consent form and sign it. Be sure to file the signed form together with the things you'll be taking along with you to the hospital.
2. When you arrive at the hospital to give birth, be sure to notify the delivery room staff of your intention to donate cord blood to the Bedomaich Chayi cord blood bank. They will take care of everything.
3. A certified cord blood collector or a midwife from the hospital's team will open a collection kit and draw a few vials of your blood for various tests. The full tubes are returned to the kit which remains with you until after you've given birth and the cord blood was collected.
4. You must hand over the consent form that you brought from home to the collector or midwife. They, too, must sign the form and place it in the collection kit. It is not necessary to also sign the forms which are included in the kit.
5. After birth and the cutting of the umbilical cord, the usual procedure is that the collector or midwife collects the blood remaining in the cord in a sterile bag provided in the kit. Identifying details are noted on the bag, and the bag is then placed in a sealed bag inside the kit.
6. The kit is then placed in a cooler and transferred to the lab for processing, checking and freezing.
7. One of Bedomaich Chayi's staff members will contact you to fill out a medical form and donation agreement.
After filling out the forms and checking the samples to ensure they're free of infectious diseases, information regarding the blood’s classification will be sent to the international bank. Once filed, the information is available to searches by transplant units in Israel and throughout the world. All identifying details are saved by the cord blood bank only. They are not transferred to any data banks or other parties.
