The Presidential Award for 2010
The Presidential Award for the year 2010 - was awarded to the Executive Director of ICBB
In fall of 2010, the Presidential Award for Volunteerism was presented to Mrs. Shelly Kapusta, Executive Director of ICBB. This additional recognition of the welcome activism to promote public cord blood banks in Israel indicates the happy news of a rising awareness to advance public cord blood banks in Israel.
ICBB Executive Director, Shelly Kapusta, a cancer survivor who received a bone marrow transplant from her sister, founded the organization after her harrowing experience with the disease. As a result of her conversations with medical teams, she decided that patients waiting for bone marrow transplants can be saved with an alternative and lifesaving substitute – cord blood. It was here that her work began, promoting public cord blood banks. Mrs. Shelly Kapusta invested much effort on all fronts: public awareness, bureaucracy, government funding, fundraising and more. She succeeded in having the Knesset pass the Cord Blood Bank Law. Minister Moshe Kahlon, MK Ze’ev Bilsky and Healthy Ministry staff are currently working on approving the regulations at the Knesset. Shelly Kapusta continues advocating for all and any sick individuals, provides them with personal support and accompanies them along the difficult path of healing.
