Where Can I Donate Cord Blood | Bedomaich Chayi
At the present time only the following hospitals allow for cord-blood donation:
• Shaare Zedek Medical Center
• Bikur Cholim Hospital
Collection is done around the clock, from Saturday night through Thursday morning. It is important to register in advance for cord blood donation (see: How to Donate Cord Blood) in order to ensure that the staff is prepared for you and will be able to help you.
Bedomaich Chayi is working hard to expand the program to include additional hospitals so that every mother interested in donating will be able to do so. This is contingent on the cooperation of the hospitals, demand on the part of the mothers and budgetary constraints.
Collection, processing, checking and storing the cord blood is costly, and we have limited resources. You can help. Every donation goes to further the growth and building of the public cord-blood bank, saving lives around the world. To donate, please click here.
General Information:
• Cord blood can only be collected by a trained collector or by specially trained midwives and doctors. This is why cord blood can only be collected in participating hospitals.
• Cord blood must reach a laboratory within 24 hours of collection. After processing, it must be tested within a specific time frame. Therefore, collection is limited to Sunday through Thursday.
• Donations can be made at participating hospitals which act as cord-blood collection centers, 24 hours a day, from Saturday night until Thursday morning. Collection is subject to delivery-room and medical conditions and is performed only when the welfare of mother and baby is ensured.
• Cord-blood collection for Magen David Adom's bank is done in the following hospitals:
1. Wolfson Medical Center
2. The Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center – Ichilov Hospital
